Emily: A Heart Of Gold (Part 2)

This is the second part of the story of Emily. This is the link to Part 1.

1942 (World War II)

"I'm going to miss you"
"Be strong, especially for Geordie, Charlotte and Sarah - Jane"

"I can't live without you"
"I will return my love, I promise. I love you and the kids"
She hugged Jack tightly. She sobbed on his shoulder. She was scared. Jack was in the Army and she was afraid to lose him. The children cried too. Geordie and Charlotte knew their father was going away but Sarah - Jane cried because everyone else was crying but she was too young to understand anything anyway.
Jack was trembling all over when he hugged his wife, she could feel him.
When they broke apart, he kissed his children gently and then turned and kissed his wife. He touched her hair and whispered in her ear, like he always used to when they were alone
"My Emily, my dear Emily".
He turned...
And that was the last they ever saw of him.
Because Jack broke his promise...

(to be continued....)

Emily: A Heart Of Gold (Part 1)

This is the first part of the story of Emily.

1951

She was sitting in an armchair by the fireplace. Sipping her tea and frowning at the flames. She was bored. Her eyes fell on the television set, the photos on the wall, her daughter's drawing on the floor, the bookcase in the corner. Books, she thought. She had been a voracious reader before she had been married but her passion for reading had faded after the birth of her first child, Geordie. She suddenly went back to the day when she held Geordie for the first time. She remembered his chubby angel face, his eyes closed in deep sleep. She remembered how her husband Jack nervously held the child and tenderly placed it in her arms. And suddenly Jack's face flashed before her eyes. She remembered his blonde hair, ocean blue eyes and ever twinkling smile. She missed her husband even now. Never a day passed when Jack's memory did not cross her mind. Her heart still bled inside but she was a statue of stone on the outside. Fearless, Powerful and a strong mommy. For her children, of course.
But right now she was thinking of Jack and she could still hear his warm, deep voice speaking her name Emily, Emily, My dear Emily....
In her mind's eye she went back to the day that changed her life forever....

Free Bird

This post has been inspired by this song and the title of the post is inspired by Lynyrd Skynyrd's Free Bird

When you are getting on in years
and too frail to move
You sigh and think of all those moments
The precious seconds that you wasted
When you were young
You could have soared like a bird
Piercing the sky with your wings
As free as a bird
Without fear of being attacked from above
Ruler of the skies
A King of the winds
The feel of the breeze right beneath your wings
You could have been Free as a bird
Like a Free Bird
